THE CHARBONNETS
The Family Behind the Company Mid-City Carriages, established in 1990, is a family-owned business in the heart of the city. Our office and stables are located in the Treme, one of the oldest African American neighborhood in the United States. It is a community that has changed the world with its music, food and civil rights movements; this minority-owned institution has long fostered the cultural traditions of parading, second-lines and jazz funerals in New Orleans. The Charbonnet family has also made it their mission to keep the tradition of mule-drawn carriages alive and well in New Orleans. |
THE MULES
The Stars of the Show! Intelligent, sturdy, and just a little mischievous, mules are the stars of the carriage industry and the best co-workers we could ask for. At Mid-City Carriages, their well-being comes first--before customers, before employees. We diligently follow all city, state and federal ordinances, and we have our own company policies to maximize every animal's comfort under Mid-City Carriages' care. THE DRIVERS
Over 200 years of Experience Not to give away their age, but our drivers are the most experienced in New Orleans, and average over ten years of experience driving animal-drawn vehicles in the French Quarter--that is no easy feat in a city known for its chaos! There's a reason why Mid-City Carriages has seasoned employees with little turnover--we treat our employees with the same respect we treat our customers. All drivers are licensed through the City of New Orleans. |
